A man in his sixties, showing signs of mental instability, was arrested by the National Police in the city of Imouzzer on the evening of Thursday, August 21, after he was involved in an attack on a police officer using a bladed weapon, which led to the officer’s death.
According to initial information, the suspect surprised the officer, who was responsible for regulating traffic at a roundabout, and inflicted serious stab wounds that resulted in his death after being transported to the hospital.
The immediate intervention by the police allowed for the arrest of the suspect at the scene and the seizure of the knife used in the attack. Available information indicates that the detained individual is homeless and had previously been admitted to mental health facilities, the last of which was in December 2024.
The judicial police have opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to uncover the circumstances and background of this case.
In recognition of the victim’s sacrifices, the Director General of National Security issued an exceptional promotion for him to the rank of officer, and instructed the Mohammed VI Foundation for the National Security Staff to take care of the funeral arrangements and provide necessary support to his family.
