32 dead and 3,134 injured in road accidents within cities over the past week
32 people lost their lives and 3,134 others were injured, including 150 with severe injuries, in 2,280 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas from August 4 to 10.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the main causes of these accidents, in order of significance, include driver inattention, failure to respect right of way, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, pedestrian inattention, loss of control, disregard for stop signs, changing direction without signaling or in an unauthorized manner, driving in the wrong direction, neglecting traffic signals, driving under the influence, driving on the left side of the road, and improper overtaking.
During monitoring and enforcement operations, law enforcement recorded 46,431 traffic violations and completed 6,217 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. Additionally, 40,214 fines were paid, totaling 8 million and 491 thousand dirhams. A total of 5,122 vehicles were impounded, and 6,217 documents were seized, while 319 vehicles were stopped.
