Bourgeois Villas in Bernoussi Complain of ‘Oil Thieves’

Many villas in the Bernoussi area of Casablanca are struggling with a surge of the “oil thief” insect, particularly amidst the rising heatwaves affecting the region and the country as a whole. Numerous residential complexes, especially those designated for villa owners, have reported an alarming increase in this pest, leading most families to purchase various insecticides while voicing their complaints to local officials. Initial discontent arose from the garbage truck operators working in the Bernoussi district, who promised residents to escalate their grievances to those in charge. They confirmed to the affected parties that they were not the first to report this invasion, stating that colleagues in the profession had received similar complaints from villa owners in neighboring areas, especially in Ain Sebaa.

Residents are hoping for swift intervention from authorities to resolve the ‘oil thief’ crisis, especially since many have found themselves forced to avoid gatherings in the villas’ gardens and the ground floors of their homes, places increasingly frequented by this insect, which has proliferated significantly during the summer season.
