Members of the National Parliamentary Group of the House of Representatives participated in the high-level parliamentary forum held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday, chaired by Mohammed Sbary, the First Deputy Speaker of the House. This event is part of a partnership between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations.

The Moroccan delegation delivered interventions showcasing Morocco’s experience in promoting gender equality, highlighting the legislative and institutional reforms adopted by the Kingdom to enhance women’s rights and increase their representation within elected bodies, in addition to efforts to combat violence against women.

The parliamentary delegation also presented national measures taken to expand health coverage and improve medical services, particularly in rural areas, alongside initiatives related to maternal and child health and reproductive health. The forum discussed two key Sustainable Development Goals: Goal Five on gender equality and Goal Three on good health and wellbeing, within the context of the high-level political forum on sustainable development, which serves as an international platform for deepening dialogue on global development policies.

Participants at the forum deliberated on ways to accelerate the achievement of targets related to equality and health, emphasizing the vital role of parliaments in legislating policies and ensuring the inclusion of vulnerable groups. The Moroccan parliamentary delegation included representatives from various parliamentary groups such as Ahmed Twizi, Mustafa Raddad, Ahmed Al-Alam, and Khadija Slassi.

This forum was considered an important platform for exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation among parliaments, as well as an opportunity to highlight the Moroccan legislative body’s commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goals and contributing to building open and equitable parliaments that address contemporary challenges.
