The Automotive Sector Continues to Lead Morocco’s Exports in 2024
The automotive sector recorded a 6.3% increase in its export value in 2024, reaching 157.6 billion dirhams, maintaining its position as the top exporting sector in the country for the second consecutive year. This performance was supported by growth in the manufacturing and electrical wiring “cabling” sectors, which each saw an increase of 3.3 billion dirhams.
The phosphates and derivatives sector ranked second in export value, amounting to 87.1 billion dirhams, which represents a 13.5% rise compared to 2023, following a significant decline the previous year. This increase encompassed natural and chemical fertilizers, phosphoric acid, and raw phosphates, which saw growth rates of 14.4%, 11.5%, and 10.6%, respectively.
The agriculture and food industries sector returned to a growth trajectory after a relative stabilization in 2023, with exports reaching 87 billion dirhams. This improvement was driven by a 9.1% rise in exports from the agriculture, forestry, and hunting segment.
The aerospace industry also demonstrated notable export growth of 14.9%, thanks to a 23.6% increase in assembly system sales.
Conversely, the textiles and leather sector experienced a slight decline of 0.5%, stabilizing at 45.9 billion dirhams, while the electronics and electrical sector maintained its stability due to an increase in exports of electric wires, cables, and devices for connecting or interrupting electrical circuits, despite a drop in electronic components exports.
The report indicated that Morocco’s exports in 2024 were concentrated around seven main products, which accounted for 56.3% of total exports. Passenger cars topped the list with a share of 14.9%, followed by natural and chemical fertilizers at 14%, and insulated electrical wires and cables at 10.5%. Ready-made clothing ranked fourth with 6.5%, followed by automotive parts at 3.7%, aircraft parts at 3.5%, and phosphoric acid at 3.2%.
