The management of the local prison of Ras el Ma in Fes has denied allegations circulating on an online platform regarding the financial extortion of inmates in exchange for access to beds, with claims of a special wing for “those who pay more.” The administration described these assertions as mere fabrications aimed at exerting pressure for illegal privileges.
In a clarifying statement issued by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration, the institution confirmed that the prison is experiencing overcrowding, which leads to difficulties in providing beds for all inmates immediately. It added that the situation is simply a normal waiting process for inmates according to the internal regulations, without any internal interference or staff involvement in the distribution process.
The administration explained that the allocation of inmates within the rooms and wings is carried out automatically through an information system that ensures equality for everyone, denying the existence of any area designated for a specific group, whether based on payment or otherwise.
The statement emphasized that such claims, lacking any evidence, aim to tarnish the institution’s image and pressure it from parties seeking preferential treatment, which the prison administration categorically rejects, reiterating its commitment to treating all inmates equally.
The institution concluded its statement by announcing its intention to resort to the judiciary, having decided to file a complaint with the competent judicial authority against those who published these accusations, in defense of its employees’ reputation and the credibility of its operations.
