Signing of an Agreement Between the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health and AstraZeneca to Develop Specialized Centers for Rare Diseases in Morocco

The Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health and the global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca announced the launch of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the management of rare diseases in Morocco, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish specialized centers of excellence in this field.

This initiative aims to support the national health system by integrating modern diagnostic techniques, developing advanced genetic tests, and training medical professionals through specialized training programs.

These centers are expected to become multidisciplinary spaces that provide care and support to patients, encourage scientific research, and training efforts, contributing to the establishment of sustainable models for the care of individuals with rare diseases within the kingdom.

Professor Boutib, Director of the Mohammed VI Research and Innovation Center, emphasized that this partnership represents “the beginning of a new phase in addressing these kinds of diseases,” adding that the collaboration between the two institutions will enable the development of innovative treatment pathways that meet the needs of patients and their families.

Meanwhile, Rami Skander, AstraZeneca’s Regional President for the Near East and Maghreb, clarified that this agreement reflects the company’s commitment “to making significant transformations in the future of healthcare,” stressing that the partnership with the Moroccan foundation will help expedite patient access to scientific advancements and bolster the capabilities of healthcare professionals.

This initiative is part of a series of previous collaborations between both parties, including projects aimed at improving the early diagnosis of lung cancer through artificial intelligence and widening access to innovative treatments, aligning with national health priorities.

The current partnership aims to create a tangible and lasting impact for patients across the kingdom, focusing on vulnerable groups lacking access to specialized treatment options.
