Security Campaign Against “Middlemen” in Tangier to Contain the Chaos of Vacation Home Rentals
The city of Tangier is witnessing a significant crackdown on “middlemen” involved in vacation home rentals, who have made the train and bus stations their base to target visitors arriving in the city during July and August for summer holidays with their families and relatives.
“Express TV” observed security operations aimed at these middlemen, predominantly locals, who wait at the stations to guide tourists to rental homes. Many of them were arrested, particularly those lacking rental contracts necessary for “pointage” as preparations are made to regulate the area ahead of the summer holidays. This comes in response to the increasing number of vacationers and visitors flocking to the northern capital, a favored destination for many Moroccans both locally and abroad.
Most of those apprehended were released shortly after, particularly those without criminal records who are trying to earn a living and assist hundreds of families arriving in the city without accommodations for their annual vacations.
Previous issues, including thefts and the rental of properties to individuals without contracts from the last season and the onset of the current summer vacation, have prompted heightened security measures since early July at both road and rail stations to prevent any new problems that could disrupt the welcoming of visitors. The city has become increasingly crowded since early July, with both local and foreign tourists eager to enjoy their annual holidays without issues.
