Morocco Opens Nominations for Its Oscar Representative for 2025

The Moroccan Cinematic Center has launched the nomination process to select the film that will represent Morocco at the 98th Academy Awards, within the category of “Best International Feature Film,” organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In an official statement, the center urged Moroccan producers to submit their nominations by July 31 of this year, emphasizing that this initiative aims to enhance the presence of national cinema at major global events.

The statement clarified that eligible films include feature films, documentaries, and animated films that exceed 40 minutes in length, provided they were produced outside the United States and not in the English language. Moreover, these films must have been commercially screened in a cinema within Morocco for at least seven consecutive days between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.

Producers wishing to participate must submit a complete dossier that includes the official nomination form, a copy of the film’s distribution contract, and a commitment proving the commercial exploitation of the work within Morocco, ensuring compliance with the standards set by the American Academy.

A special committee composed of Moroccan cinema professionals will be tasked with viewing and evaluating the nominated films, with the aim of meeting in September to select the work that will represent Morocco at this prestigious international cinematic event.

The Moroccan Cinematic Center confirmed that all nomination details are available on the official Academy website, noting that this anticipated participation aligns with the growing momentum observed in Moroccan cinema, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in recent years.
