Mobile Water Desalination Stations in Casablanca-Settat to Address Water Scarcity
The Regional Multi-Service Company of Casablanca-Settat is implementing an urgent water program aimed at mitigating the impacts of increasing water scarcity in the region. This plan includes the establishment of mobile seawater desalination stations and the removal of minerals from groundwater.
This project comes in response to escalating climate and demographic pressures that have led to a noticeable rise in demand for potable water, especially during the summer months.
The program encompasses the construction of 28 mobile stations utilizing reverse osmosis technology, a modern method that provides high-quality treated water and is recognized as one of the leading globally approved ecological solutions. The total production capacity of these stations is 8 million cubic meters annually, reflecting the significant challenges faced by the region and the institutional commitment to overcoming them.
A budget of approximately 400 million dirhams has been allocated for this project, with 128 million dirhams contributed by the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council. The Regional Multi-Service Company is directly overseeing the implementation in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and other institutional partners.
Currently, the progress of the works has reached over 60%, with 17 stations operational to date, distributed as 8 stations in the Settat province, 5 in the El Jadida province, and 2 in the Berrechid province. Work continues on the remaining stations within the specified timelines.
