International tourism in Spain recorded record numbers in the first half of 2025

Spain welcomed over 52 million international travelers in the first half of 2025, achieving a 6.4% increase compared to the same period last year, according to official data from the Spanish Tourism Institute. The number of arrivals in June alone reached 10.7 million travelers, reflecting an annual growth rate of 4.5%.

The United Kingdom maintained its position as the top source of international tourists to Spain, with 11.08 million travelers between January and June, accounting for 21.3% of total arrivals, representing a 4.4% increase. Germany contributed 1.4 million travelers in June, making up 13.6% of the total, followed by Italy with 5.2 million travelers (+11.8%), France with 3.9 million (+5.2%), and the Netherlands with 2.5 million (+4.8%).

Other countries also saw notable increases, such as Ireland (+9.3%) and Poland (+14.2%), while Asian markets notably grew, particularly from China and South Korea, alongside a significant rise in arrivals from Turkey and Colombia.

Six autonomous regions accounted for 97.2% of the total international tourists, with Valencia recording the highest growth rate at (+12.5%), while the Balearic Islands saw the weakest increase at (+3.7%). The Madrid region topped the tourist destinations, attracting 23.6% of visitors, equivalent to 12.3 million travelers, marking a 5% increase.

In terms of infrastructure, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport remained the largest entry point for international travelers, followed by Barcelona Airport with 10 million travelers (+5.7%) and Palma Airport with 5.2 million (+3.7%). Valencia Airport achieved the highest annual growth rate (+14%), followed by Alicante Airport (+11.7%), reflecting the ongoing dynamism in Spain’s tourism sector.
