Younes Elkouiri, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, clarified that employment is a complex issue requiring multiple approaches and ongoing efforts. He affirmed that the results achieved to date are still below expectations, although the latest figures released by the High Planning Commission are encouraging.
The minister’s statement came during a public session of weekly oral questions in the House of Representatives on Monday evening, responding to comments made by several representatives who raised issues they described as "insurmountable" during a discussion on the "Revitalization of Employment and Reduction of Unemployment" posed by the Movement group.
Elkouiri noted that the High Planning Commission announced for the first time the creation of a net total of 288,000 jobs, encompassing most sectors and economic activities. He added that these positions are paid and not part of the informal economy, firmly stating: "Anyone who claims that this year did not witness job creation is mistaken."
In response to the representatives’ observations, the minister acknowledged the ongoing issue of spatial justice, indicating that it is one of the challenges the government is attempting to address within the roadmap for implementing its employment policy. He also pointed out that the number of created jobs remains insufficient, considering the positions lost in recent years due to drought and structural crises.
Regarding the reform of the Labour Code, the minister emphasized the importance of reviewing it after more than two decades since its adoption to keep up with economic changes, activate employment programs, and stimulate investment.
