A man in his forties attempted to murder and assaulted a member of the civil protection services while the latter was trying to persuade him to end his sit-in, which had lasted more than 15 days, in the outskirts of Beni Mellal on Friday evening.
The protester, demanding an investigation into the death of his father, a retired soldier, refused to come down and held the rescue worker captive for several hours. Under pressure and physical threat, the civil protection officer was forced to jump from the top of the water tank, necessitating an urgent transfer to the hospital, with no precise information about his health condition available at this time.
Local sources reported that the protester also threw stones at the gendarmerie and civil protection personnel from the top of the tank, escalating the tension and complicating the situation on the ground.
The incident prompted a response from local authorities and gendarmerie services, leading to a large gathering of residents at the scene amid an atmosphere of heightened anxiety.
As of this moment, the protester remains barricaded atop the tank, awaiting a potential intervention to resolve this complex situation.
The relevant authorities are expected to initiate a judicial investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the abduction and assault of the public service member.
