Al-Bouari: Structural Projects to Ensure 80% of Irrigation Needs and Enhance Agricultural Water Security
Follow-up
Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests Minister Ahmed Al-Bouari confirmed on Wednesday in Rabat that the ministry continues to implement structural projects aimed at securing the water needs of the agricultural sector, in line with the royal directives calling for ensuring 80 percent of irrigation water nationwide.
In a press statement following a meeting of the steering committee for the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program, chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, Al-Bouari explained that the ministry is relying on practical solutions to meet these needs over the next three years, through investments in seawater desalination projects and expanding the infrastructure of “water highways” to ensure sustainable water resources for agricultural activities.
The minister highlighted the water connection project between the Sebou River and the Al-Masira Dam, which is fully dedicated to agricultural supply, noting that this project will expand irrigation to new areas such as Chaouia and Rahamna.
Al-Bouari emphasized that these projects are part of a strategic vision aimed at strengthening agricultural water security and ensuring the continuity of agricultural activities. He pointed out that the meeting included a precise diagnosis of the needs of each region in various watersheds across the kingdom, along with the presentation of practical and effective solutions to address these challenges.
