Al Ahly Club is accelerating its negotiations to resolve the future of Moroccan winger Reda Slim ahead of the registration deadline.
The Egyptian club is looking to reduce the number of foreign players on its roster before the new season begins. Club officials are evaluating several offers to release Slim during this ongoing summer transfer window, as he has fallen out of favor with Portuguese coach José Ribeiro.
Al Ahly has rejected offers from the domestic league sides Nahda Berkan and Wydad Casablanca due to the low financial compensation proposed, which did not exceed $100,000 for the loan deal. The club’s management is insisting on a higher fee for any potential departure, as Slim has struggled to establish himself in the squad since joining from FAR Rabat in the summer of 2023.
A Qatari club has also entered the negotiations, as confirmed by Egyptian media sources. A decisive meeting is expected to take place in the coming hours between Al Ahly officials and representatives from the Gulf club to reach a final agreement on the transfer terms and contract details.
Al Ahly’s management aims to expedite negotiations ahead of August 6, the deadline for submitting the final squad list to the Egyptian Football Association. Indicators suggest that Slim’s loan is becoming a necessary step to reduce the number of foreign players in the squad, especially with intentions to offload Tunisian player Mohamed Daoudi Cristo as well, which would leave only five foreign players, including Moroccans Achraf Dari and Achraf Ben Cherki.
Slim has been unable to secure a regular spot in the technical staff’s plans, despite the high expectations surrounding his transfer to Al Ahly, prompting management to seek a solution for his temporary or permanent exit that serves the interests of both parties and maintains the team’s competitive balance.
