Mohammed Ould Rashid Discusses with Vice President of El Salvador

In an effort to strengthen Morocco’s diplomatic presence in Latin America, Mohammed Ould Rashid, President of the House of Councillors, held high-level discussions with the Vice President of El Salvador, Felix Ulloa, today in the capital, San Salvador. The talks focused on developing bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and El Salvador and expanding partnership areas in strategic sectors of mutual interest.

During the meeting, attended by Ibrahim Badi, Chargé d’Affaires at the Moroccan Embassy in San Salvador, the Salvadoran Vice President expressed his country’s pride in the level of relations with Morocco, noting the new dynamics that began after El Salvador cut ties with the “imaginary republic” in 2019 and opened an embassy in Rabat in 2021.

Ulloa reaffirmed El Salvador’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, stating that the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco is a realistic and credible solution to the regional conflict over Western Sahara. He emphasized that his country views Morocco as a strategic gateway to the African continent, given its political stability and regional leadership.

The Salvadoran official expressed his country’s eagerness to enhance cooperation with Morocco in vital sectors such as agriculture and fisheries, asserting that his government, with the support of King Mohammed VI, aims to expand its partnership with Morocco to serve mutual interests.

For his part, Mohammed Ould Rashid expressed his satisfaction with the strength of relations between the two countries, highlighting El Salvador’s growing role in supporting the partnership with Morocco within the institutional framework of Central America. He expressed Morocco’s readiness to share its experiences in various fields, particularly in food security, renewable energy, and agriculture, within a framework of effective and balanced South-South cooperation.

The President of the House of Councillors emphasized the importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and intensifying visits between the two legislative institutions, praising the firm positions held by Salvadoran representatives within the Central American Parliament and the ‘FOPREL’ forum in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity.

These discussions form part of Ould Rashid’s official visit to San Salvador, leading a Moroccan parliamentary delegation to participate in the Parliamentary Economic Forum for Investment and Development, organized by ‘PARLASEN’ in partnership with the House of Councillors.
