The local prison administration in Kenitra denies the interruption of water supply to inmates and clarifies the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The administration of Taounate Prison responds: “Unsubstantiated claims and unacceptable defamation.”

The local prison administration in Kenitra has categorically denied claims circulating on social media, specifically on Facebook, regarding the interruption of drinking water supply to inmates, coinciding with the ongoing heatwave in the country.

In a clarification statement issued on June 20, 2025, the prison administration asserted that the published allegations are baseless, emphasizing that the institution has not recorded any disruption in the provision of drinking water.

The administration explained that the situation was merely a temporary reduction in water pressure in one section of the prison, caused by increased demand on the water network due to the operation of showers in another wing. This was in line with their commitment to ensuring inmates’ rights to hygiene in accordance with health and legal standards.

The statement added that water pressure returned to normal immediately after the showers were no longer in use, and this temporary disruption did not affect other facilities or the normal daily life of the inmates.

The prison administration concluded its clarification by urging the public to exercise caution when dealing with unreliable information circulated on social media, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to providing appropriate living conditions for inmates within the facility.
