Russia Shoots Down Drones and Attacks Kyiv with Missiles
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Friday that Russian air defenses shot down 174 Ukrainian drones overnight, marking the largest escalation of this kind in weeks, according to Reuters.
In response to a Ukrainian drone attack that targeted the capital Moscow early Saturday, Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and several cities and regions, including Lviv to the east and nine other areas, targeting military sites and infrastructure.
For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that the country was subjected to missile and suicide drone attacks, while the military administration in Kyiv reported that the strikes hit civilian and residential facilities, resulting in at least four deaths and 20 injuries, in addition to damage to the city’s metro system.
In Moscow, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency announced the suspension of air traffic at the capital’s airports and in the city of Kaluga, following the downing of six drones launched by Ukraine toward Moscow, as stated by the city’s mayor.
In a concurrent development, Russian media reported that the city of Engels in the Saratov region also faced Ukrainian drone attacks.
