Qatar has sent an official letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council for June, Caroline Rodriguez-Burket, requesting the distribution of the letter’s content to council members and its adoption as an official document. This follows a missile attack that targeted the Al Udeid Air Base on Monday evening.

Qatar strongly condemned the attack, carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, considering it a serious escalation and a blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It emphasized that this aggression represents a direct threat to regional peace and security.

In the letter sent by Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Qatar stated that the continuation of these military escalations puts the region at risk of sliding into broader confrontations with catastrophic implications for international peace and security.

Qatar reiterated its right to respond commensurately to the scale of this aggression, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, highlighting that this position is based on the legitimate right of self-defense within the framework of international legality.

Doha urged the Security Council to urgently assume its responsibilities, calling for immediate measures to enforce a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, warning of the dangers of continued military escalation, while affirming that the only solution lies in a serious and responsible return to the table of dialogue and negotiations.

The Qatari letter emphasized that the negotiation track is the only way to ensure stability in the region and maintain international peace, urging the international community to intervene to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.
