In a television interview, Niger’s Foreign Minister, Bakary Yawou Sangare, praised Morocco’s support for the Sahel Alliance, which includes Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, describing it as high-quality assistance that reflects the spirit of African solidarity and South-South cooperation, especially in light of the geopolitical shifts occurring in the region.
The minister emphasized that the Moroccan stance stems from an independent vision that recognizes the importance of enhancing stability in the Sahel, which faces complex security and political challenges requiring close coordination among the nations in the region. He asserted that Rabat’s support for this alliance is part of its steadfast commitment to strengthen the foundations of joint African action and to enhance cooperation for maintaining security and achieving sustainable development in this strategic area.
Sangare explained that Morocco approaches the Sahel issue from a constructive perspective, prioritizing respect for the sovereignty of states and mutual interests, without being affected by any existing regional tensions or disputes. He stressed that Moroccan support is not linked to the political tensions between Algeria and the member states of the alliance but is seen as a sincere expression of Morocco’s desire to contribute to the stability and advancement of the African continent.
The minister reaffirmed that the enhancement of cooperation between Morocco and the Sahel countries carries a strategic dimension that goes beyond the current moment, opening promising avenues for building effective partnerships based on mutual trust and respect for each country’s uniqueness, serving the interests of African peoples and bolstering the continent’s position on the international stage.
