Martil Hosts the 13th Regional Book Fair Under the Slogan “The Sea: A Horizon for Thought”

The 13th Regional Book Fair in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region will take place in Martil from July 1 to July 9, at the Security Square, featuring prominent names in the local, regional, and national literary and scientific scene.

Organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture, this cultural event is held under the slogan “The Sea: A Horizon for Thought,” commemorating the 26th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne.

This year’s edition honors Hasna Dawood, director of the “Dawood Foundation for History and Culture” and daughter of the late scholar Mohammed Dawood. The opening lecture, titled “The Sea: A Horizon for Thought… Morocco and Andalusia,” will be delivered by Abdeslam Akemir, director of the Center for Andalusian Studies and Civilizational Dialogue in Rabat, and presented by Dr. Mohamed Al-Amarti, a specialist in Andalusian studies and Spanish Orientalism.

The program includes a series of lectures and seminars that reflect on the sea as a space for shared thought and imagination in Moroccan creativity, discussing topics such as cultural diplomacy between Morocco and Spain, Moroccan and Andalusian literature in universities, theater and performing arts in northern Morocco, local imagination in novels, and Morocco’s image in the writings of European and American travelers, along with interventions in poetry and visual arts, and the role of media in shaping local identities.

The fair will also feature poetry readings and workshops for children in storytelling, theater, and comics, with participation from a select group of creators, writers, and artists from various regions.

The fair will showcase a variety of book stalls representing local, regional, and national publishing houses and libraries, along with government institutions presenting their latest publications.

The event aims to create a knowledge horizon that enhances the presence of thought and culture in local, regional, and national contexts, as well as a human horizon that opens the door to deepening cultural dialogue between the two shores.
