Lafitit Announces the Arrest of Over One Million Suspects in Expanded Crime Fighting Efforts in Morocco
Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit has revealed a significant outcome in the fight against crime in Morocco, announcing the arrest of more than one million individuals over the past year and four months.
Laftit stated that security services successfully registered approximately one million and 519 thousand cases nationwide during the previous year and the first four months of the current year, leading to the detention of one million and 112 thousand suspects.
In response to a written question from MP Nadia Tahami of the Progress and Socialism group, the minister confirmed that security authorities and local entities are working to keep pace with urban and demographic expansion, particularly in urban and rural areas, by establishing new security units and supporting them with human and logistical resources to ensure effective security coverage.
Laftit pointed out that a series of field measures have been adopted to reduce crime, primarily enhancing the visible security presence in public streets, activating preventive approaches, and deploying both foot and vehicle patrols in urban neighborhoods and around educational institutions.
The minister also noted immediate responses to content circulated on social media, opening investigations under the supervision of the public prosecution alongside strengthening local judicial police units with special intervention units from the national brigade.
Furthermore, Laftit emphasized the widespread deployment of specialized anti-gang teams across major security leaderships and the use of mobile rooms on motorcycles to ensure quick and effective intervention in narrow alleyways, thereby enhancing the efficiency of security responses to all forms of crime.
