Beni Mellal: Public Prosecutor Denies Arbitrary Arrest and Confirms Legal Detention of Two Intoxicated Individuals
The Public Prosecutor at the Beni Mellal Court of First Instance has officially announced that reports circulating on some social media platforms regarding the "arbitrary arrest" of two individuals in the city are unfounded. The Prosecutor emphasized that the matter involves a legal detention conducted in compliance with established regulations.
According to the same source, the two individuals were apprehended while publicly intoxicated, after being involved in activities that disrupted public order, which included insulting police officers, creating chaos, and causing damage to public property.
The statement added that the first detainee was arrested in the early hours of June 27, after he conducted a live broadcast on social media from the vicinity of the police station, communicating with someone outside regarding a case still under consideration at the Appeals Court in Marrakech. During attempts by police officers to stop him from filming, he directed insulting remarks at them while clearly exhibiting signs of intoxication.
In a related incident, the brother of the first individual arrived at the police station in a similar state of intoxication, causing chaos inside the security facility and breaking one of the station’s windows, while also verbally abusing the police officers.
Based on these facts, the Public Prosecutor ordered the two individuals to be placed in custody for investigation regarding the offenses attributed to them, which include public intoxication, disruption of public order, insulting public officials while performing their duties, and vandalizing public property.
The Prosecutor also clarified that during the custody period, the detainees were transported to the hospital and subjected to necessary medical examinations, in full respect of legal standards and procedures.
In conclusion, the Public Prosecutor reaffirmed that the individuals remain in custody, in complete compliance with the legal guarantees afforded to them, and indicated that they would be presented to the Public Prosecutor once investigations are complete for appropriate action according to the law.
