Bennali and Qiyouh Establish a Roadmap for Transport and Energy Integration and Enhanced Continental Connectivity

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the capital city of Rabat hosted a coordination meeting between Leila Bennali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and Abdessamad Qiyouh, Minister of Transport and Logistics. The meeting aimed to explore integration opportunities between the two sectors in the areas of continental connectivity, sustainable mobility, and the development of national industries related to renewable energy.

This meeting comes in a national context aimed at accelerating the pace of energy transformation, linking it with modern transport projects. The ministers discussed ways to integrate clean energy into various modes of transport, including road, maritime, and air transport, with a focus on utilizing green molecules, particularly hydrogen and its derivatives, as part of a comprehensive vision aimed at reducing carbon footprints and enhancing the sustainability of the transport system.

This approach aligns with the industrial challenges facing the kingdom, where both parties emphasized the need to capitalize on national capabilities within industrial value chains related to the transport and energy sectors. They confirmed the importance of stimulating investment in strategic industries such as cables, batteries, solar, and wind energy, thereby reinforcing industrial sovereignty and establishing integrated production and distribution systems at the national level.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to unify views on the methodology for joint work, with the ministers agreeing to adopt a pragmatic and effective approach to implement priority projects while strengthening coordination mechanisms among the relevant sectors to ensure effective execution and achieve tangible impacts in the medium and long term.

This coordination reflects the new dynamic in the relationship between the Ministries of Transport and Energy, within a strategic vision that aims to harmonize efforts and solidify Morocco’s position as a regional player in the green economy and a reliable partner in sustainable development projects at both continental and international levels.
