The King of Britain Outlines Priorities in Canada

King Charles III of Britain is set to outline the priorities of Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, in a speech before the Canadian Parliament today, Tuesday.

This speech is viewed as a show of support amid threats from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the annexation of Canada into the United States.

Trump’s repeated comments about “making Canada part of America” prompted Prime Minister Carney to request the British monarch, Charles III, to deliver what is known as the “Throne Speech.”

The king serves as the head of state for Canada, which is a member of the British Commonwealth comprised of former colonies.

It is rare for the British monarch to deliver a “Throne Speech” in Canada; the late Queen Elizabeth II did so twice during her 70-year reign, the last time being in 1977.
