CAF Plans Investigation into Confederation Final Events Between Simba and RS Berkane
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is preparing to launch a comprehensive investigation into the incidents that accompanied the second leg of the African Confederation Cup final between Tanzanian side Simba and Moroccan club RS Berkane. This follows the receipt of official reports from referees and observers, as well as a complaint submitted by RS Berkane regarding mistreatment and hospitality conditions.
The complaint noted that the RS Berkane delegation was detained for several hours at Dar es Salaam airport due to organizational issues, provoking protests from the Moroccan club, which deemed the situation contrary to the principles of fair play.
The reports were accompanied by several videos documenting potential assault attempts by some fans and organizers on the officiating crew within their designated area.
Footage circulated on social media depicted significant tension following the match’s conclusion, with several Simba supporters and officials attempting to approach the referees in protest over the match proceedings, before security forces and organizers intervened in the tunnel to contain the situation and prevent its escalation.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that awarded the continental title to RS Berkane, benefiting from their 2-0 victory in the first leg. This marks their third title in the competition amid a charged atmosphere that could expose Simba to potential sanctions if proven misconduct occurs.
