The Peace and Security Council of the African Union decided on Wednesday to lift the suspension of Gabon’s membership in all Union activities.
This decision, which restores Gabon’s rightful place within the African Union and its institutions, was made during a closed meeting of the Peace and Security Council, attended by Gabon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michael Regis Olenga N’Diaye.
During a press conference following the meeting, N’Diaye stated, “Today marks a significant turning point for Gabon… on April 30, 2025, Gabon officially returns to the great family of the African Union.”
The Gabonese Foreign Minister noted that Gabon is returning with a firm commitment to build a better future.
He added, “We return with a renewed desire to actively participate in the work of the African Union and contribute to efforts for peace, sustainable development, and regional economic integration, in line with the aspirations of the Agenda 2063 for the Africa we want.”
