Tangier: Suspect Arrested Following Hoara Forest Fire, Found in Possession of Lighters and Hashish Pipe

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Appeal in Tangier has announced the launch of an urgent investigation into the fire that broke out in the Hoara forest belonging to the Akznaya municipality, resulting in extensive damage to the forest cover.

The investigation began immediately after the notification to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the Attorney General instructing the royal gendarmerie officers to conduct inquiries and identify those responsible for the outbreak of the fire.

In the context of these investigations, a person was arrested near the fire site, carrying a bag containing ten lighters and a pipe used for consuming hashish, in addition to a small knife. The suspect was placed under custody and questioned officially.

Today, the arrested individual appeared before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which decided to refer him to the investigating judge on charges relating to the intentional setting of a forest fire, drug consumption, and possession of a bladed weapon without legal justification. The investigating judge ordered his detention in Tangier local prison 2 pending the completion of the investigation procedures.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed its commitment to keep the public informed of any updates regarding the investigation, adhering to the principle of transparency and respect for legal procedures.
