Tangier is set to host a scientific event in the field of colorectal surgery on June 12, 13, and 14, coinciding with the 14th Mediterranean Conference of Proctology.
The medical and scientific conference is organized under the auspices of the Mediterranean Society of Coloproctology (MSCP), in partnership with the North Surgeons Association, and with support from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tangier and Mohammed VI University Hospital, alongside significant contributions from various international scientific institutions from Europe, America, and Maghreb countries.
According to the organizers, this event represents a significant milestone in enhancing scientific and medical collaboration among Mediterranean countries, especially since this annual appointment is regularly held in one of the Mediterranean cities. Morocco has been honored this year as the host for the first time, reflecting the growing confidence in the national health and scientific capabilities.
In this context, Dr. Fadi Banghamush, the Secretary-General of the North Surgeons Association and a member of the organizing committee, stated, “The organization of this conference in Morocco was not a coincidence; it resulted from over a year of strategic planning and coherent collaboration among multiple parties, all working with team spirit to make this event a success.”
Banghamush added, “From the beginning, we established a clear goal in our minds, which is to organize an international standard scientific event, while ensuring Morocco’s position as a prominent Mediterranean scientific hub in the field of proctology.”
The Moroccan surgeon noted that the scientific program of the conference aims to achieve a delicate balance between scientific and academic innovation and practical training, featuring scientific sessions and high-level presentations by a select group of professors, in addition to live broadcasts of advanced surgical procedures conducted in the operating rooms of the surgical complex at Mohammed VI University Hospital in Tangier.
He further explained that the choice of Tangier to host this event was not random; it stemmed from the city’s embodiment of openness and its rich historical legacy, as well as its equipped Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, which has become qualified to host international scientific events.
He continued, “We believe that Moroccan doctors possess the competency and ambition required for leadership, and all they need is a real platform to showcase their capabilities and provide them with opportunities for continuous training and development.”
Banghamush concluded his statement by emphasizing that the conference is an opportunity to build bridges of communication between generations and experiences, and between the two shores of the Mediterranean, in service of the patient first and in realization of the noble mission of medicine based on integrity, commitment, and renewal.
The scientific program of the Mediterranean Conference of Proctology includes extensive and integrated sessions centered around the latest techniques in diagnosing and treating anal and rectal diseases. Topics will cover laser therapy techniques, robotic surgery, management of rectal prolapse cases, as well as updates related to colon and rectal cancer.
The conference will be accompanied by practical workshops and live surgeries broadcasted directly from the operating rooms of Mohammed VI University Hospital in Tangier, under the supervision of top international experts, allowing participants to experience the detailed nuances of modern surgical practice.
The conference activities are organized in parallel between a hotel unit in the northern city and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tangier, with sessions divided among keynote lectures, complex clinical case presentations, technical workshops, and interactive scientific discussions involving leading surgeons and researchers from around the world.
The conference will feature the attendance and participation of prominent medical figures and renowned scientific experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Egypt, Brazil, Senegal, Mexico, Lithuania, Venezuela, Greece, and Morocco; making this edition a truly international scientific event.
The organizing body aims for this scientific conference to mark the evolution of Moroccan surgery, particularly in enhancing opportunities for continuous training, exchanging expertise, and embracing the latest innovations and techniques in proctology, confirming that it crowns years of diligent work to promote Moroccan medicine on the international stage and reinforce Tangier’s status as a Mediterranean scientific center.
