Saudi Arabia Releases Iranian Cleric

Saudi Arabia has released an Iranian cleric who was detained last Monday after he made strong criticisms of the kingdom, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA.

The agency reported that “Gholam Reza Qasemyan was released and is on his way to Iran, following follow-up efforts by Iranian officials.”

His detention was prompted by a video that circulated on social media, in which Qasemyan accused the Saudi government of “turning Mecca into a place of immorality.”
