Real Madrid Extends Contracts of Modrić and Vázquez for Just Two Weeks
Spanish club Real Madrid has decided to extend the contracts of its players Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez for only two weeks, in order to secure their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, despite their contracts officially expiring on June 30 of the same year, as confirmed by the Spanish newspaper “AS.”
This decision comes in response to an exception established by FIFA, allowing participating clubs in the upcoming Club World Cup to extend players’ contracts that end in late June for an additional 15 days, until July 15, provided an agreement is reached with the concerned players.
Through this move, Real Madrid aims to ensure the availability of the experienced duo in case the team qualifies for the later stages of the competition, which starts on June 14 and concludes on July 13, 2025.
The Spanish club will kick off its journey in the tournament against Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal on June 18, followed by a match against Mexican side Pachuca on June 22, and will conclude group stage matches against German club RB Leipzig on June 27, within Group 8.
