Nasser Bourita: The Two-State Solution is the Only Path to Peace, and Morocco Continues Its Support for Palestine

Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, asserted that Morocco’s hosting of the fifth meeting of the International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution reflects the significant trust placed in the country by the various parties involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He noted the participation of representatives from over 50 countries in this international event.

In a press statement made on Tuesday during the meeting in Rabat, Bourita explained that Morocco believes the only viable solution to the conflict is the two-state solution, which ensures coexistence between Palestine and Israel. This approach, he emphasized, enjoys international consensus. He added that the ongoing Israeli assaults represent a clear violation of international law.

The minister highlighted that the meeting is taking place during a time when established international references are being undermined. He warned against the loss of significant agreements such as the Oslo Accords, the UN General Assembly resolutions, and the Madrid Conference, which could pave the way for extreme options regarding the future of the Palestinian cause.

Bourita reiterated Morocco’s support for Palestinian institutions, stating that "a realistic solution cannot be envisaged without strong and established institutions." He emphasized that the Kingdom is committed to supporting the Palestinian Authority led by President Mahmoud Abbas as a key partner in the peace process. He stressed that Morocco’s priority lies in enhancing the effectiveness and strengthening these institutions.

The minister shed light on the nature of Morocco’s ongoing support for the Palestinian people, stating that the Kingdom adopts a balanced approach between diplomatic efforts and ground actions. He noted that "condemnation is not enough; the Palestinian people need tangible and effective support." He mentioned Morocco’s commitment to leveraging its credibility with various parties to achieve this goal.

Bourita emphasized that Morocco does not engage in political posturing but works to bring Palestinians closer to achieving their legitimate rights. He cited Morocco’s role in mediating the continued engagement between Israeli and Palestinian banks and in delivering food and medical aid during wartime, being the first country to do so.

He indicated that Moroccan diplomacy does not seek to tally its achievements, but the reality reflects its significant role, particularly in Al-Quds through the Jerusalem Endowment Bank, which distributes thousands of loaves of bread daily and implements projects for the care of Palestinian orphans and support for women in Jerusalem, thereby demonstrating a daily, not temporary, commitment.

Bourita concluded by stating that Moroccan support for the Palestinian cause is based on a balance between political and practical efforts, away from any political exploitation. He emphasized that economic aspects should not be seen as a substitute for a political solution, but rather as a means to create conditions for the two-state solution, which is a central pillar of "the economy of peace."

He also clarified that the international meeting taking place in Rabat will focus on three main axes, primarily evaluating previous experiences related to the two-state solution and analyzing the reasons for their impediments, with the aim of reinstating the international references currently facing attempts at weakening or marginalization.
