Marine Products See Value Rise Despite Decrease in Quantities
The National Office of Fisheries reported that the total value of commercial products from coastal and traditional fishing exceeded 3.65 billion dirhams by the end of April 2025, marking a 2% increase compared to the same period last year, despite a 23% drop in caught quantities to 206,666 tons.
Caught quantities of small marine fish decreased by 31% to reach 138,628 tons, which was accompanied by a 23% decrease in value, stabilizing at 634.64 million dirhams. In contrast, some species saw notable increases, with shellfish quantities rising by 165% to 46 tons, while its value surged by 248%.
Crustacean quantities experienced a slight decline of 8% to 2,222 tons, with value remaining stable at 125.5 million dirhams. White fish quantities increased by 14% to 38,507 tons, with their value rising by 12% to 706 million dirhams. Additionally, algae quantities saw a 71% increase to 1,292 tons, although their value dropped by 62% to 4.8 million dirhams.
The unloading volume of products at Mediterranean ports reached 5,431 tons, demonstrating a 5% increase compared to the same period last year, while value grew by 11% to exceed 285.56 million dirhams. Meanwhile, the volume of products at Atlantic ports decreased by 24% to 201,235 tons, although their value increased by 2% to nearly 3.31 billion dirhams.
