The Indian Armed Forces conducted airstrikes on Tuesday evening, targeting sites within Pakistani territory, including areas in Kashmir controlled by Islamabad, marking a potential escalation of military tensions between the two countries.
The Indian Army announced in an official statement that it carried out a “precise strike” against camps it described as terrorist, confirming the initiation of a military operation named “Sindoor,” which targeted nine locations within Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir. The statement emphasized that the attack focused on destroying what it termed the infrastructure of terrorism.
In a swift response, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee scheduled for Wednesday morning in Islamabad. The Pakistani news channel Geo reported that Information Minister Attaullah Tarar indicated the meeting would be held at 10 AM local time to assess the situation and discuss an appropriate response to the Indian strikes.
So far, Pakistan has reported four fatalities due to the Indian attacks, while military sources noted that the Pakistani Army is prepared to respond to the assault amid regional and international concern over the unfolding situation.
