For this reason, effervescent tablets are unsuitable for hypertension patients

The Consumer Advisory Center in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, stated that effervescent tablets are not suitable for patients with high blood pressure, attributing this to their content of "sodium carbonate," or simply salt, which is known to pose a risk for individuals with elevated blood pressure.

Maximum Salt Intake

The center explained that the average salt content in effervescent tablets containing minerals and vitamins is 0.67 grams per dose, noting that the maximum daily salt intake is 6 grams according to recommendations from the German Nutrition Society, or 5 grams according to the World Health Organization’s guidelines.

Therefore, individuals with high blood pressure should prefer dietary supplements available in the form of capsules or regular tablets to reduce salt intake.

It is also advisable—if possible—not to resort to dietary supplements and instead replace them with fresh fruits and vegetables; for example, vitamin C can be obtained from foods rich in it, such as citrus fruits (like oranges and mandarins), guava, kiwi, broccoli, and bell peppers.
