Fawzi Lekjaa, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, confirmed on Wednesday in Marrakech that the 2030 World Cup is a prominent sporting event and a historical occasion that reinforces the bridges of cooperation between the shores of the Mediterranean.

In a speech during the opening session of the 33rd General Assembly of the Mediterranean News Agencies Alliance (AMAN), read on his behalf by the federation’s spokesperson, Imad Maqrouf, he stated that “the 2030 World Cup is a Mediterranean World Cup and a World Cup for the two continents, Europe and Africa. I believe no sporting event has ever embodied such diversity, making this a historical moment to reinforce cross-border bridges.”

He added, “Together with our friends in Portugal and Spain, we will spare no effort to provide the optimal conditions for an event that will remain a landmark in the history of football and in the history of cooperation between the two Mediterranean shores.”

He pointed out that the preparation for the 2030 World Cup in Morocco is under the direct supervision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, reflecting his belief in the noble values this event represents for peoples and nations, particularly for the youth aspiring for a better tomorrow.

In this respect, Mr. Lekjaa emphasized that the media’s role “is not just an auxiliary factor or a complement to the football system, but is an integral part of it. Football cannot be imagined without close media coverage, and cross-border bridges cannot be built without the media serving as the cement for these bridges.”

He noted that one of the guarantees for the success of major events is the presence of news agencies that provide coverage through various media, considering that a news agency is the “unknown soldier who determines the outcome of the battle, even though its name may not shine as brightly compared to other actors in the field.”

He indicated that news agencies produce the most news and detail, and they are bound by discipline to the principles of professionalism and the honor of the profession, which qualifies them to provide credible service to both media actors and the public.

The agenda of the general assembly, chaired by the Moroccan News Agency for one year starting from this assembly, includes a seminar on the subject of “FIFA World Cup 2030: Challenges and the Role of Mediterranean News Agencies,” featuring stakeholders in the field of football and several journalists.

This event, organized under the slogan “Football and Media in the Mediterranean Region: Building Bridges Beyond Borders,” with the participation of general managers and representatives from member news agencies, serves as an opportunity to highlight the major projects Morocco has launched under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup.
