Vandals instill fear in the Kebazat area of Kenitra, and merchants demand the return of neighborhood police.
The commercial Kebazat area in Kenitra experienced chaos and panic last night when a number of individuals, in an abnormal state, stormed Settat Street wielding knives and overturned goods inside shops, causing widespread fear among pedestrians and shopkeepers. The vandals took advantage of the absence of neighborhood police in the commercial zone.
According to local sources, citizens were startled by the attackers’ actions, which instilled fear, forcing many customers to flee while some merchants attempted to protect their stores.
Several professionals called for the immediate reactivation of a permanent neighborhood police system, the establishment of foot and mobile patrols during peak times, the installation of surveillance cameras in collaboration with traders, and the creation of a direct reporting mechanism for swift response. They emphasized the importance of involving local stakeholders in assessing the security situation and proposing realistic solutions.
Many participants viewed this incident as a threat to both citizens and merchants as well as to security within a vital commercial district, urging security authorities to take urgent measures to restore confidence among citizens and ensure the protection of economic activities in the area.
