The 163rd session of the Arab League Council convened today, Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo, with Morocco participating in the discussions.

Morocco is represented by a delegation led by the Moroccan Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Mohamed Ayat Ali. The delegation also includes Abdel Ali Al-Jahiz, Head of the Department of Arab and Islamic Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, and Hicham Ould Selai, Deputy Permanent Representative of Morocco to the Arab League.

The Arab ministerial meeting is set to discuss several political, economic, and social issues, as well as recent developments concerning Arab and international affairs, particularly in Palestine. It will also explore arrangements for the upcoming Arab summit in Baghdad on May 17.

The agenda of the session includes various political, economic, and social items, with a primary focus on the Arab joint action, which encompasses the Secretary-General’s report covering the period between the 162nd and 163rd sessions and the draft agenda for the upcoming summit.

The meeting was marked by the handover of the presidency of the 163rd regular session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers from Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaaib Mohsen Al-Zindani, the outgoing president, to Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

During the opening session, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, highlighted the difficult and harsh conditions facing several Arab countries, pointing specifically to Sudan, Libya, Syria, and Somalia.

He addressed the Israeli violations in Gaza and their plans targeting the region, emphasizing that the Arab side has clearly expressed its stance against them and proposed an alternative approach during the Cairo summit last March.

Aboul Gheit expressed his hope for the conference scheduled for next June at the United Nations, co-chaired by Saudi and French leaders, to represent a qualitative shift in addressing the two-state solution, transforming it from mere verbal support to practical implementation and tangible realization.
