Slovenia considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative as “a good basis for a final solution” to the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
On Friday, Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tanja Fajon, affirmed that her country “considers the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007 as a good basis for a final solution” to the fabricated regional dispute regarding the Moroccan Sahara.
Fajon praised Morocco’s serious and reliable efforts to settle the Sahara issue during a press conference following talks held in the Slovenian capital with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad.
In this context, the Slovenian minister reiterated her country’s position on the Moroccan Sahara issue, as expressed in the political declaration adopted on June 11, 2024, during her official visit to Rabat.
This declaration serves as a reference for the new dynamics witnessed in bilateral relations, including Slovenia’s stance on the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
On another note, the two ministers agreed on the exclusive role of the United Nations in the political process and reaffirmed their support for the decisions of the United Nations Security Council, including the latest resolution 2756 (2024).
Fajon also renewed Slovenia’s long-standing support for the UN-led process aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and acceptable political solution for the parties, based on consensus.
Morocco and Slovenia reiterated their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy to urge all parties to move forward in the political process based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
They also reaffirmed their support for the MINURSO mission.
