Naima Ibn Yahya, the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, highlighted Morocco’s progress in the field of social justice during an event at the Diplomatic Institute in Rabat on Thursday.

During the 144th diplomatic meeting, attended by several foreign ambassadors accredited to Morocco and representatives of international organizations, Ibn Yahya emphasized that Morocco has embarked on a series of legislative, political, and social reforms aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women.

She pointed out that this positive dynamic has been reinforced by the inclusion of the principle of equality in rights and civil, political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental freedoms as stipulated in the 2011 Constitution.

In this context, the minister praised the central role played by international partners, civil society, and other stakeholders in implementing action plans aimed at promoting equality and combating discrimination against women, noting that this multilateral cooperation is a real lever for achieving national goals in this area.

She also stressed the importance of building bridges for exchanging experiences and practices with members of the diplomatic corps by providing the necessary data that facilitates understanding Morocco’s unique aspects in implementing socially-oriented public policies.

Abdelatty Habak, the head of the Diplomatic Institute, noted that Morocco has been able over the past two decades to enhance its legislative arsenal aimed at solidifying the foundations of the social state.

He indicated that the social contract established by the 2011 Constitution focuses on reinforcing rights and freedoms and strengthening the social dimension in public policies through a series of initiatives and programs, as well as establishing social institutions aimed at supporting social cohesion.

Habak added that the Moroccan family holds a distinguished status in public policies, thanks to legislative, political, and social reforms aimed at achieving gender equality in rights and freedoms, combating poverty and social exclusion, supporting vulnerable groups, and enhancing the status of women.

In this regard, he addressed the revision of the Family Code, which reflects a strong national will to elevate the status of the Moroccan family, providing legal guarantees that protect everyone’s rights and enhance the leading role of the kingdom in promoting the principle of equality in rights and parity while respecting national and religious constants and keeping pace with the social, economic, and cultural developments taking place in the country.

Concerning persons with disabilities, the head of the Diplomatic Institute noted that the action plan related to this group is based on international and national references, including the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Framework Law No. 97.13, as well as the integrated public policy for child protection 2015-2025.

He also highlighted Morocco’s policy of openness and its efforts to establish a promising model for international and South-South cooperation, adding that this dynamism has enabled the implementation of promising projects and the launch of tangible initiatives such as the establishment of the “African Network for Social Inclusion, Solidarity, and Disability.”

This meeting, which centered around ways to strengthen the foundations of the social state and achieve social justice, served as an opportunity to underscore the importance of enhancing family cohesion, economic empowerment of women, and entrenching principles of fairness and equal opportunities and dignity, as well as integrating individuals in difficult situations into various aspects of life.
