Algeria Exports Gas to Israel: The Ship at Bejaia Port Exposes the Hypocrisy of the Algerian Regime and Reveals the Falsehood of Its Rhetoric
The arrival of the cargo ship “CAPTAIN CHRISTOS” at the Israeli port of Ashdod on April 18 sparked widespread controversy following confirmation of its departure from Bejaia port in Algeria on the 11th of the same month. This incident once again highlighted the contradiction of the Algerian regime, which publicly champions anti-normalization slogans while secretly conducting trade transactions with Israel, leading many to consider it a blatant form of political hypocrisy.
Navigation data showed that the ship headed directly from Algeria to Israel, raising questions about the nature of the cargo and the entity that authorized the journey, despite the official narrative claiming a rejection of any relations with Tel Aviv. Activists and human rights advocates deemed the incident as new evidence that the slogan “No to Normalization” is merely a tool used by the regime to cover its internal crises, from escalating prices and declining services to stifling political and media freedoms.
The incident also revealed the existence of secret dealings between Algeria and Israel, contradicting the propaganda narrative promoted by the regime both domestically and internationally. Nevertheless, coverage was entirely absent from Al Jazeera and media outlets associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, which remained completely silent despite the seriousness of the incident. These same entities had launched a wide-ranging attack on Morocco weeks ago when a ship stopped at Tangier port, later revealed to be unarmed, yet it did not escape exaggeration and distortion.
The silence of Brotherhood media on the Algerian incident reflects a blatant double standard and raises a direct question: Why is a country that did not break the law attacked, while another country that has directly engaged in secret relations with Israel is ignored?
