UAE Minister of State: A Promising Strategic Partnership with Morocco Enters Its Final Stages

- in International

Emirati State Minister for Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, confirmed in an interview with CNBC Arabia that the UAE is in the final stages of scheduling dates to sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with Morocco. This step is part of a clear strategic approach based on precise criteria for selecting countries, which include economic strength, available opportunities, and the presence of trade barriers that can be overcome through agreements.

Al Zeyoudi indicated that there is an increasing desire from several countries to join the comprehensive economic partnership program, and his ministry is studying these requests alongside the implementation of the original program plan. This direction reflects a UAE policy that contrasts with the current global trend, as international trade faces contraction and a shift towards protectionism, while the UAE is moving to expand its openness, particularly towards southern countries.

The minister emphasized the importance of building direct trade routes between southern countries, considering this approach vital amid changing economic power dynamics. He added that countries with which the UAE has signed comprehensive economic partnership agreements in the initial stages will witness growth that is double compared to the G7 countries by 2050, reflecting a strategic bet on emerging markets.
