The Moroccan Chess Championship Comes to a Close

In Marrakech, the National Chess Championship for the 2024-2025 sports season concluded yesterday, featuring the crowning of four champions in the rapid and blitz formats, both for men and women.

Tariq Anwar from the Rapid Wadi Zam Club clinched the open category rapid chess title with an impressive performance, scoring 7.5 points, ahead of Yasser Khalti from the Lemon Club of Berkane, who finished second with 7 points, while Marwan Fryat from the Fes Club secured third place with the same score.

In the women’s rapid chess category, player Wessal Charbani from the Success Sous Club shone by topping the leaderboard with 6 points, while Kenza Tabich from the Hazzem Torch Club took the second spot with 5 points, ahead of Mariam Ibriz from the Tangier Union, who also finished with the same score.

In the blitz competitions, Yassine Sintisi from the Hazzem Torch Club won the title with 9.5 points, surpassing Yasser Khalti who earned 9 points, while Hussein Manouzi from the Marrakech Cosmos placed third with 8 points.

For the women, Kenza Tabich claimed the blitz chess title with 8 points, followed closely by Wessal Tabich from the Success Sous Club with 6 points, and Ferdaous Mayar Idrissi from the Marrakech Lighthouse Club with the same score.

Tariq Anwar expressed his deep happiness in a press statement upon achieving this title for the first time, adding that this victory is the result of long work and intensive training, with hopes of representing Morocco in future Arab events.

Yassine Sintisi stated he was proud of his victory in his first participation in the blitz chess championship, commending the high level of competition.

Wessal Charbani expressed her gratitude for the support of her club, coach, and family, noting the fierce competition, which will motivate her to improve her skills for a commendable presence in regional and international contests.

Likewise, Kenza Tabich shared her joy at this new title in blitz chess, confirming that it reflects her developing skills, which she aspires to elevate for upcoming Arab championships.

This event, organized by the Royal Moroccan Chess Federation over two days, aimed to enhance competition among participants and motivate them to improve their performance, serving as a platform to discover young talents capable of representing Moroccan chess honorably in upcoming Arab, African, and international competitions.

The championship, overseen by chief referee Othman Sabbar (an international referee), included a panel of ten judges and saw participation from 58 players and 15 female competitors representing various regional leagues, qualified through regional eliminations, in addition to players listed in international rankings with 2000 points or more.
