Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch affirmed that leveraging the advantages of digitization in managing correctional institutions has become essential for improving the administration of Moroccan prisons. He emphasized that modern technologies serve as an effective support in enhancing the efficiency of prison management, protecting the rights of inmates, and evaluating staff performance.

Akhannouch made these remarks during a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui at the opening of the seventh conference for prison administrations in Africa. The conference focused on the theme of technology serving the management of correctional institutions in Africa. He stated that it is crucial to seize the opportunities provided by digitization to create an inclusive and secure correctional system at all levels.

The Prime Minister noted the necessity of implementing digital management in an integrated manner that allows for shared access to public facilities. He highlighted that this approach has been solidified by the establishment of the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Digital Transition, which supports public administration in digital transformation and investment, leading to the National Digital Strategy for 2030.

Akhannouch also referenced the continuous cyberattacks targeting institutions, stating that in light of the increasing number of these attacks, vigilance must be heightened and information systems reviewed.

In this context, he underscored the need for coordination among African countries to build mutual sovereignty in order to address digital challenges, including those affecting the management of correctional institutions, which have become essential through the investment in digitization to ensure enhanced security and effective governance, as well as the reintegration of inmates.
