On April 13, 2026, Morocco’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, Azeddine Medawi, welcomed Guinea’s Minister of Higher Education, Diaka Sidibe, in Rabat. This meeting aims to foster deeper educational and research collaborations between Morocco and Guinea, emphasizing the significance of regional cooperation within the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES).

Strengthening Educational Ties

The discussions centered on expanding cooperation in higher education and research, with both nations committed to enhancing academic partnerships. High-ranking officials, including CAMES Secretary-General Souleymane Konate and the Guinean Ambassador to Morocco, Namouri Traoré, joined the talks, highlighting the importance of these bilateral relations.

Shared Aspirations for Academic Collaboration

Key topics included the development of joint projects between universities, which are expected to bolster research initiatives, facilitate academic exchanges, and enhance student mobility programs. The meeting underscored the necessity of improving training mechanisms for engineers and education professionals, a pivotal step towards meeting the labor market’s demands.

CAMES’ Role in Quality Education

The CAMES framework plays a crucial role in raising educational standards across member nations. Both parties recognized the Council’s efforts to unify educational criteria and improve the continental education system, enabling a more robust and cohesive academic environment.

Growing Interest from Guinean Students

Recent figures indicate a rising trend in Guinean students enrolling in Moroccan universities, with 1,379 students recorded in the academic year 2024-2025. This influx reflects Morocco’s increasing appeal as a destination for African students seeking higher education, signifying a broader regional trend towards academic integration.

A Commitment to Future Collaboration

Concluding the discussions, both Morocco and Guinea expressed a strong desire to enhance their academic and research collaboration. They aim to establish more structured and practical initiatives that will strengthen their partnership in the common African space for higher education and innovation.
