The Ministry of Equipment and Water, headed by Nizar Baraka, has announced its intention to construct a check dam on the Ershk River in the Tamazmout area of Zakoura. This initiative is part of efforts to enhance water infrastructure and tackle the challenges of water scarcity in the region.
The project aims to optimize local water resources and mitigate the impacts of flooding, while also supporting groundwater levels and providing additional water for agricultural use. It is expected that the check dam will improve the management of rainwater and runoff experienced during rainy periods in the area.
This move aligns with the national water strategy, which seeks to develop small and medium water facilities, particularly in rural and semi-arid areas, to strengthen water security and address climate change challenges.
This project is anticipated to be a significant addition to the water infrastructure in the Zakoura region, which has been grappling with issues related to water scarcity and declining groundwater resources for years. Such initiatives are essential for supporting local development and stabilizing agricultural activities.
