The Dynamics of Entrepreneurship in Morocco in 2026: Casablanca Leads the Scene with the Trade Sector at the Forefront

The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property reported that January 2026 saw the establishment of a total of 7,874 new companies in Morocco, a figure that reflects the ongoing economic dynamism and the emerging entrepreneurial spirit. These companies comprise 5,827 for corporate entities, accounting for 74%, and 2,047 for individual entrepreneurs, which represents 26%, indicating a clear dominance of organized companies over individual initiatives.

Within the legal framework, single-member limited liability companies dominate the new entrepreneurial landscape, comprising 66.7%, followed by limited liability companies at 32.4%. This preference suggests that investors favor legal forms that offer flexibility, mitigate risks, and align with market demands. This trend reflects an evolution in investment culture, with actors increasingly inclined to regulate their activities within clear legal frameworks.

Geographically, the Casablanca-Settat region leads in the establishment of new companies, accounting for 39.6%, followed by the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region at 13.8%, Marrakech-Safi at 12.5%, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima at 11.1%. These four regions account for 77% of all newly established companies, highlighting persistent regional disparities, as economic activity is concentrated in major urban centers.

Sector-wise, the trade sector commands the largest share at 27.48%, followed by construction and public works at 25.56%, diversified services at 19.14%, transport at 8.16%, and industry at 6.75%. This growth parallels the registration of 12,136 trade names during the same period, indicating market vitality. However, the significant concentration in traditional sectors raises questions about the need to diversify the economic fabric and enhance the presence of high value-added activities.
