More than 37,000 Cars Sold in Two Months in Morocco, with “Dacia” Leading the Market

The Moroccan car market recorded positive performance by the end of February 2026, with new car sales rising by 8.79 percent compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 17,143 units, while “Dacia” continued to lead in sales.

This positive performance is primarily attributed to an increase in private vehicle sales (VP) by 9.77 percent, totaling 14,825 units, alongside a 2.93 percent rise in light commercial vehicle registrations (VUL) to 2,218 units.

In cumulative terms during the first two months of the current year, data from the Moroccan Association of Automobile Importers (AIVAM) reported total sales of 37,564 units, an increase of 22.14 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

Specifically, private vehicles recorded a total of 33,086 registrations, growing by 24.17 percent, while light commercial vehicle registrations increased by 8.95 percent to reach 4,478 units.

In terms of brand performance, “Dacia” maintained its lead in the private vehicle segment with 7,527 units sold by the end of February 2026, capturing a market share of 22.75 percent. “Renault” followed in second place with 5,767 units (17.43 percent market share), while “Hyundai” secured third place with 2,571 registrations (7.77 percent market share).

In the luxury vehicle category, German manufacturer “BMW” led among private vehicles with 741 units sold by the end of February 2026, followed by “Audi” with 728 registrations, and “Mercedes-Benz” with 396 units, according to the association’s data.

Regarding light commercial vehicles, “Fiat” topped this sector with 727 units sold, followed by “Hyundai” with 519 units, and “Dongfeng” in third place with a total of 477 vehicles.

These figures confirm the continued recovery of the car market throughout 2025, where sales reached 235,372 units, reflecting an annual increase of 33.4 percent, indicative of improved local demand.

In this context, a report from the international credit rating agency Fitch predicted that the Moroccan car market will enter a new phase of sustainable growth and technological transformation, driven by increased local production and rising demand for electric and Chinese cars.

The agency also estimated that total sales in 2026 would reach approximately 253,194 units, a nearly 8 percent increase, supported by growth projections for the Moroccan economy of about 4.4 percent and stable inflation rates around 1.2 percent.
