Meloni Announces Sending Italian Air Defenses to Support Gulf States After Iranian Strikes

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Thursday that Italy plans to send air defense systems to the Gulf States to assist them in facing Iranian strikes.

In a statement to RTL 201.5 radio, Meloni expressed that Rome will collaborate with the United Kingdom, France, and Germany in providing military support to the Gulf States.

The Italian Prime Minister clarified that this is “purely defensive support,” adding, “We are clearly talking about defense, specifically air defenses, not just because these countries are friendly, but because there are tens of thousands of Italians in that region, in addition to around 2,000 Italian soldiers that we must protect.”

Meloni emphasized that the Gulf region is of vital importance for global energy supplies, making its stability a priority for Rome and its European partners.
