Tazi and Bouchiri Announce Joint Candidacy for the Presidency of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises

Mahdi Tazi, the current vice president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, and Mohamed Bouchiri, who served as acting president in 2019, have announced their intention to jointly run for the positions of president and vice president for the term spanning from 2026 to 2029, following the current president, Chakib Alj.

This announcement came after the Board of Directors approved on March 11, 2026, the opening of nominations, with a meeting planned later to validate candidate files and finalize the list on April 8, before presenting it at the ordinary general assembly scheduled for May 14, 2026. The election campaigns will commence on April 15.

These elections are expected to witness strong competition amid the transformations occurring within the Moroccan business landscape, alongside the growing need to enhance the competitiveness of national enterprises and to keep pace with major economic reforms.

The joint candidacy of Tazi and Bouchiri represents a move towards providing leadership that combines experience and continuity at a time marked by increasing economic and structural challenges.

Moreover, the recent meeting of the Board of Directors offered current president Chakib Alj the opportunity to showcase the outcomes of the economic initiatives undertaken, including the law regulating the right to strike, the activation of support for very small, small, and medium-sized enterprises as part of the investment charter, as well as updates on the 2026 finance law and currency system reform.

The meeting also addressed efforts to improve access to financing for businesses, invigorate the capital market in Casablanca, and the progress of structural reforms, primarily the revision of the labor code, vocational training system reform, and retirement plans.
